Years ago, I made a short comic
to make sense of things,
to channel my pain into
something tangible, and to heal . . .
by drawing one panel after another.
An Ode to Panels is a celebration
of how panels—the little squares,
rectangles, and whatnot—welcome
our stories and teach us about
life. They are small doorways that
transport us to multiple worlds, and
we are never quite the same after
reading what’s in them.
Interestingly, the word “panel”
comes from an Old French word,
meaning “piece of cloth.” Put
together, these pieces become a
tapestry of our lives; a blanket that
can wrap us in safety, reassurance,
comfort, and warmth.
