This is the story of Gisela P. Concepcion, Vice-President of Academic Affairs of the University of the Philippines Diliman. She received her BS Chemistry (cum laude) from UP Diliman in 1975, MS Biochemistry from UP Manila in 1982 and her PhD in Chemistry from UP Diliman in 1995. She is an internationally recognized award-winning researcher and academician. Some of her awards are the Dr. Eusebio Y. Garcia Recognition Award for Melocular Biology and Molecular Pathology, the National Research Council of the Philippines Achievement Award in Chemistry and the Paz and Severino Koh Lectureship Award in Science. One of her largest project is the Pharmaseas Marine Drug Discovery Program where she works together with local and international partners to discover new treatments for pain, cancer, infections and other illness by studying the Philippines' marine resources.
